It's the end of another weekend somehow
This weekend has been really busy; I suppose that's why it feels like it passed so quickly. We went for a walk at Mount Hope Cemetery on Saturday; cemeteries actually are really nice places to wander. There were beautiful old trees that I couldn't even reach my arms around and beautiful stone angels and obelisk monuments. It was a bit of a grey day, but the clouds shifted to allow the sun to shine through from time to time.
You can see some of the photos I took here.
On Sunday, we had my partner's family over for food. I made a seitan loaf from scratch, with cornbread stuffing in the middle. I also made gravy and mashed potatoes, and my partner helped with the Caesar salad (he makes the dressing, and it's so good).
I like cooking for people; it feels like a genuine way to express care, and food has always been deeply connected to warm memories for me.
Family gatherings at my house as a kid always centered around food; my mom would cook from what felt like sun up to dinner time on those special days, and I would sneak into the kitchen to take little samples before the big meal ... which I'm sure she was super pleased about.
Today was an early wake-up for one of my older kid's engagements, but the rest of the day should be fairly quiet. Just cleaning and getting ready for the week.
Back to work tomorrow, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I just wish work started at 10am instead of 8am, I've never been much of an early bird ... I genuinely could not care less if someone else gets the worm, I want to sleep in.
